Learning Log

Today we learned about a bunch of different teaching strategies in a short video. My favorite teaching strategy that I would love to implement in my own classroom would definitely be the learning log. This strategy requires students to write step by step instructions for different topics in Math. I think this is a great way to have students think about problems. I know that this strategy helped me in my University subjects, and it would be a great skill to have been learned in high school.

The teacher in the video paired this strategy with peer evaluation. Reading another peers work can help you realize something you were missing, or it can help a student in an area they were weak in. Using peer evaluation of a learning log can ensure that each student has a good set of instructions for homework, and for studying. I would love to try this method in my next placement, and see how the students work with this type of learning. If it works well I would eventually love to implement this into a common activity in my own classroom.
